SCREEN Truepress JET 520HD Expected to Expand Book Production at Union Printer in Las Vegas

SCREEN Americas announces the installation of the Truepress JET 520HD to Creative Digital Printing, also known as CDI, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The move to add the high-speed press to CDI’s production lineup marks the union printer’s first investment in roll-fed inkjet technology and comes in response to rapid growth and increased demand for book production services.

CDI specializes in hardcover and softcover textbooks for educational institutions, industrial training programs, and union organizations. With growing customer needs and expanding order volumes, the company recognized that its cut-sheet digital presses were no longer enough to keep pace with demand. The Truepress JET 520HD is expected to significantly boost production efficiency and help CDI grow its customer base while increasing annual revenue by 27% in 2025.

“We were looking for speed, quality, and consistency—and SCREEN checked all three boxes,” said Chris Casey, owner and COO of CDI. “When another union printer shut down, we picked up a lot of their work and knew it was time to make a move. The print quality on the SCREEN press rivals offset, and we can now take on longer runs without missing a beat.”

The press is paired with Tecnau unwinding and finishing equipment in CDI’s 12,000-square-foot facility, allowing for seamless integration into its current workflow. CDI offers in-house perfect binding, saddle stitching, coil, and Wire-O binding—all designed to support fast turnarounds and streamlined delivery.

With a lean team of 20 employees, CDI regularly handles book runs from 500 to 10,000 copies and often operates with a backlog of over 20 million impressions. “This new press gives us breathing room,” said Casey. “We’ll be able to reassign some of our team to finishing and focus on throughput. The machine is that simple to operate.”

Beyond printing, CDI is building out its distribution capabilities—an important add-on for publishers working within requirements. “We already have a couple of clients leveraging our fulfillment services, and we’re looking to grow that side of the business,” said Casey.

CDI also offers a full range of general commercial printing and wide-format services. The Truepress JET 520HD will play a key role in the union printer’s evolution as a high-volume book manufacturer.
